Loco Moco
This recipe is a Hawaiian comfort dish featuring seasoned ground beef patties, rich gravy made with beef stock, soy sauce, and mushrooms, topped with a sunny-side-up egg, and served over Calrose rice. Method
- Prepare Hinode Calrose Rice per package instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder and black pepper
- Shape beef into medium sized patties and fry each side until done
- Transfer to a plate and set aside
- Prepare the Gravy
- In a separate bowl, combine beef stock, shoyu (soy sauce), Worcestershire sauce, ketchup and cornstarch.
- Melt butter over medium-high heat then add onions and mushrooms and fry for one to two minutes
- Add gravy mixture to the pan, reduce heat and stir until it begins to thicken and simmer
- Fry the Egg
- Melt butter in frying pan and add egg into the pan and season with salt and pepper to taste
- Cook 3-4 minutes until whites are set
- Assemble:
- Scoop fluffed rice onto a plate or shallow bowl
- Place one hamburger patty on top of the rice and drizzle with gravy
- Top with sunny side up egg and garnish with green onions
