Loco Moco

This recipe is a Hawaiian comfort dish featuring seasoned ground beef patties, rich gravy made with beef stock, soy sauce, and mushrooms, topped with a sunny-side-up egg, and served over Calrose rice. Method

  1. Prepare Hinode Calrose Rice per package instructions
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder and black pepper
  3. Shape beef into medium sized patties and fry each side until done
  4. Transfer to a plate and set aside
  5. Prepare the Gravy
  6. In a separate bowl, combine beef stock, shoyu (soy sauce), Worcestershire sauce, ketchup and cornstarch.
  7. Melt butter over medium-high heat then add onions and mushrooms and fry for one to two minutes
  8. Add gravy mixture to the pan, reduce heat and stir until it begins to thicken and simmer
  9. Fry the Egg
  10. Melt butter in frying pan and add egg into the pan and season with salt and pepper to taste
  11. Cook 3-4 minutes until whites are set
  12. Assemble:
  13. Scoop fluffed rice onto a plate or shallow bowl
  14. Place one hamburger patty on top of the rice and drizzle with gravy
  15. Top with sunny side up egg and garnish with green onions
